Mobile security: how to block your call info and other tips

There are a number of reasons why a caller may want to stop their number from being displayed to other people. It may be to avoid businesses collecting your details, to make anonymous business or government enquiries, or to avoid the receiver knowing who is calling and where the call originated.

Call number display allows the recipient of the call to view the caller’s phone number on their mobile screen. It is possible to block your phone number by changing the security settings on your handset, or by dialling 1831 followed by the phone number:

e.g  1831 0499 999 999

However, blocked calls will always be displayed to emergency services.

If you would like your mobile phone number to be permanently blocked, your plan provider can activate this for you at no charge as long as the settings are not changed more than once every six months.

If you have specified to have your line blocked in the security settings of your mobile, you can choose to have your phone number displayed on a single call by dialling 1832 followed by the phone number. If you have requested to have your number blocked through your plan provider, the 1832 service will still be available unless you are on the Optus network (in which case you may choose to have it unblocked, and change the security settings on your handset instead).
