Telstra has recently updated its Next G Cap Plans – the caps have more included value as well as bonus data for certain handsets.

The plans are available on a 24-month contract, however there is also a range of mobile phones to choose from at all plan levels.

Signing up with Telstra means that you are guaranteed to have the widest coverage available in Australia. You will also have access to Telstra’s Next G network, which means that when you are using the internet on your mobile phone, it will be faster than any other provider in Australia, whether you’re in a metro or regional area.

The Next G Cap Plans are pretty simple – Telstra will give you a monthly included allowance for calls and texts to any other phone on the Australian network, as well as a monthly data allowance. Customers who choose to purchase an iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, HTC Desire, HTC Wildfire, LG Optimus GT540f or Nokia N97 Mini will also receive bonus data each month.

$49 cap: $400 monthly included usage, 200MB, 500MB bonus for handsets listed above.

$79 cap: $750 monthly included usage, 500MB, 500MB bonus for handsets listed above.

$99 cap: $1000 monthly included usage, 500MB, 500MB bonus for handsets listed above.

The excess data usage for these plans is charged at 25 cents per MB.

$129 unlimited cap:

This cap includes unlimited standard calls, video calls, text and voicemail within Australia to any phone on the Australian network. The plan also includes a huge 3GB of data (regardless of which mobile phone handset you choose). Excess data usage is charged at 15 cents per MB.

The $129 unlimited cap also includes $50 of bonus credit for international calls, text and MMS.

The call rates:

$49 cap: 40 cents/30 sec standard calls, 37c connection fee.

$79 cap: 40 cents/30 sec standard calls, 37c connection fee.

$99 cap: 32 cents/30 sec standard calls, 35c connection fee.

SMS: 25 cents
Video calls: 55 cents/30 secs
Voicemail retrieval: 30 cents/30 secs

The mobile phones:

Each plan level comes with a range of handsets to choose from at no extra cost when you sign up to the plan for 24 months. If there is a phone you’d like that is only available on higher plan levels, you can choose to pay an added monthly repayment option (MRO) so you can still purchase the phone you want. An MRO will break down the added cost of the phone into monthly payments over 12 or 24 months.

Some of the phones available at no added cost on the $49 cap are the Nokia N97 mini, the Samsung Omnia Pro and the HTC Desire.

Phones available at no added cost on the $79 cap include the Samsung Wave, Samsung Omnia Icon and the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10. These phones are also available on the $99 cap.

The $129 unlimited cap includes the BlackBerry Bold 9700, the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10, the Samsung Omnia Pro and the HTC Desire.
