If you’re a fashion-conscious buyer looking for a well-designed, slim and easy-to-use entry model phone, the Nokia 5000 may be for you. Call quality is good and it comes equipped with most of the features you’d expect from Nokia design. However, it does lack removable storage, so multimedia fans may have to look elsewhere.

The Series 40 interface, although easy to use and fairly responsive, can be a challenge when scrolling through long lists: holding down the navigational key doesn't always scroll fast enough, which means you’ll find yourself pressing repeatedly.

The Nokia 5000's menu is intuitive and well-designed, and the glossy, raised keypad provides good tactility, even if the keys are somewhat small. The latter may pose some comfort and speed issues when texting. The 5-way navigational pad is also a little small.

Regarding the screen, it is clear and bright, despite poor viewing angles and glare issues. The camera is only 1.3 megapixels. Note: this is only an entry model phone. Bluetooth, PIM functions, FM radio, a music player and a 2.5mm HS-105 headset are all included. There is only 12MB of internal memory, and no removable storage option. This limits functionality in terms of photos and music. A2DP is also lacking, which means you can’t stream radio or music to a wireless headset.

The Nokia 5000 is finished with a middling gloss black panel flanked by two coloured side panels, with a metallic grey finish on the sides. The Nokia 5000 is an ergonomically comfortable phone, lightweight, and easy to use.
