It's fair to say advances in mobile phone technology are confusing for most of us. With thousands of mobile phone products and new gadgets released everyday, it can get really difficult to compare mobile phones and plans.

Spare a thought for your grandparents or other people who might be more removed from all the latest mobile phone hype. It would indeed be very frustrating and perhaps a little amusing trying to navigate through all the jargon and gadgets on the market.

Have you ever wondered what elderly people make of all the bizarre acronyms and new words within mobile phone terminology?

iPhone: A telephone that ‘I’ can use?
BlackBerry: A scratch-and-sniff phone that smells like fruit?
Megapixel: A Walt Disney pixie or cartoon character?
Bluetooth: A mouldy old tooth?
Wi-Fi: Some kind of super cleaning cloth?
Audio jack: A strange nickname for little Jack who likes his music?

Actually if you read online forums there are many elderly people who want to brave the jargon storm and dip their toe into the endless stream of mobile phone technology. However, the most common request is, ‘Can someone recommend an easy-to-use mobile phone without all the bells and whistles?’

In response we have come up with a list of 3 great phones for senior citizens, or anyone just looking for a really simple handset!

1.The Big Button Simple Phone:

This is a basic easy-to-use mobile with big, big buttons, and it looks like a calculator! According to Simplephone.co.nz, the Simplephone is perfect for the elderly and people searching for a decent-sized, uncomplicated handset.

The Simplephone features include a large 1-cm wide button, a simple screen, 12 speed dial settings and an emergency button.

2.Oricom's EZY100

Oricom says this is a great phone for oldies, people with hearing or vision impairment, and for those who just want to text and talk. Say goodbye to fancy complicated features, the Ezy100 is a nice basic handset, which includes features such as large keys with a backlight, enhanced volume settings, an emergency key and a large display.

3.LG KF300

Crazy John's says this is their easiest to use phone, but this LG mobile has a few more features than the others on this list. Like the other phones mentioned here, the LG KF300 has big buttons and a loud ringtone making it very user-friendly. It has shortcut options on the keypad for a phone book, SMS and organiser. As for the fancier features, it comes with:

•A 2-megapixel camera with autofocus: a simple camera with autofocus
•FM radio
•Bluetooth: a device that sends and receives signals between other Bluetooth mobile phones, so you can share documents or pictures.
•Mobile internet: you can browse the internet on your mobile phone.

If you are looking for a simple mobile phone and you don't need anything to elaborate, then these three phones should certainly be your cup of tea!
